Updating Your Kitchen- Tips By SC Home Stager, Marci Toliver

I got inspired for this post, after viewing some friends profiles on Facebook.

When looking back in time, things we once wore, we wouldn't be caught dead in anymore.

For example, take a look at this cutie...

When selling your home, oftentimes, it will require an update, as well.

For example, kitchen cabinets, if they are in good shape, but dated, simply paint them to get a more updated look.

80's countertops can be replaced with Granite or Silestone

Remove shiny brass handles and knobs and dated fixtures and replace them with an oil-rubbed bronze or brushed nickel.  This simple fix can often be achieved for less than 40.00.

Lighting in a kitchen built in the '80s was usually fluorescent lighting. Fixing this is a simple cosmetic change such as molding and recessed lighting for accomplished DIY'ers can dramatically change a kitchen's look.

Marci you are so right. Sadly it is easier to see othere people's shortcoming than our own, and the same can be said for a seller and their home. Using a professional to point out the obvious is so needed sometimes.

By the way, I am keeping my pictures from high school under lock and key!

Marci,

Cute pic's, you haven't changed a bit!  Now as for the dated homes, you are absolutely right!  A homes age is easily identified by the decor and materials used in the home.  Updating a home by changing out counter tops and lighting fixtures can easily bring it more value and help sell it faster.  A professional home stager can easily make the proper recommendations for updating a home and work within the clients budget to achieve a look that is more appealing to buyers.

Come on Mark!  Show those photos!  A professional home stager can be used to help the ease the tension so the Realtor is not put on the spot with the seller!

Michelle:  Thank you for putting it so eloquently! when it comes to outdated homes!  Sadly, when looking through my MLS, there are quite a few to choose from!  I'm not sure if the seller didn't want to update or if they couldn't afford it, Oftentimes, a can a paint would be the resolution!

Dontcha just love those old pics on facebook Marci!

You and I are children of the 80's and while I love the era for a variety of things from music to movies (Breakfast Club, 16 Candles!) the home design choices of that era need to go!

Karen:  I don't even remember taking the first photo!  The second one was the one that put in our yearbook.  That was my senior photo!  and just like you....Oh how I love the 80's - just not the decor!

Marci - Unfortunately, so many people think that if an 80's home is good enough for them - then, it's good enough for anyone!  Thanks
