No Cell Phone Zone

The prinicpals of Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens counties have spoken!  There will be a

  in the carpool lanes.

Tell me this a cruel joke.

Signs will be posted beginning tomorrow, Jan. 31 to remind parents to turn off their phones during drop off from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. and pick up from 2:15 to 3 p.m

I'm usually in that line for at least 20 minutes on a good day!

In South Carolina, cell phone use was indicated as a contributing factor in one fatality and 191 injuries since 2002. Some South Carolina legislators are drafting a bill to be introduced this year that will restrict cell phone use while operating a vehicle.  I hope that they wont ban cell phones while driving, just allow us to have a hands free.

Help me out with this one big bro, Brian Foxworth !

Bible vs. Cell Phone

Wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it as we traveled?
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
This is something to make you go ...hmm...where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill!

Pass this on to everyone you know that has a cell phone. Makes you stop & think "where are my priorities?"

And no dropped calls !

Welcome to Mauldin!

I live in Greenville County. But Mauldin is my area. Estimated population in July 2005: 19,343 (+27.1% change)
Males: 7,346 (48.3%), Females: 7,878 (51.7%).  It is growing and ICAR is coming! Icar is 40+ acres of automotive engineering companies coming to SC!  I cant wait for all the new homes that are going to be built as the population increases again!

Mauldin is the home of NBA star Kevin Garnett.

He attended Mauldin High, largest in terms of enrolled students (as of 2006), in Greenville County.

Mauldin is known for its speed traps.

Mauldin is listed as a speed trap city on the SpeedTrap Web site, http://www.speedtrap.org/, a place where visitors may post cities they believe to be speed traps.

The list is open to private postings.

Yes, I ve been stopped. Once I was rambling on so much the officer told me he didn't have time to listen to why I was speeding.  The other time, I was stopped I was on the way to a dr's appt for my son who had a temperature of 103.  I asked that officer, "WHAT ARE YOU STOPPING ME FOR!!!!"  There's nothing he could say to an angry mother.    I currently have a safe driving record and love my town.  So if you are thinking of visiting any time soon, please drive slow!

Tattooing now permitted in Greenville County

A person can now get a legal tattoo in Greenville county.  We will no longer have to travel to NC or GA.  I guess the police have gotten tired of arresting the back alley shop owners.

Years ago, I got a tattoo.  It is very discreet and in memory of my daughter who passed away.

To me, it was a way to remember her.

My tattoo is a rose with her initials, MNET- Maya Nicole-Elyse stuck through a heart. The heart has my son's initials BT, the needle was beginning to hurt, REALLY BAD!

A 2004 state law ended a four-decade ban on tattoos, but cities still play a key role in deciding whether studios open. To get a license, a studio has to show state health officials a city zoning ordinance allowing its proposed site.

Greenville's current zoning laws neither prohibit nor allow tattoo parlors.  Currently, there are 5 parlors that have opened as a result of the new law.

Anderson County Voted to Reinstate Blue Laws

Anderson is one of the counties, that my team services...

Anderson County Council has voted to reinstate blue Laws.  I'm sure that the residents of Anderson arent happy, but GA and Greenville County Residents are!

The laws prohibit retailers from opening until after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The vote was, 4-3.  Councilwoman Cindy Wilson was the one to make the motion, stating her Christian beliefs, that Sundays are a dest of rest and to be with family.

There are some strong opponents to this law......

Repealing the blue law is an economic advantage for Anderson County," councilman Michael Thompson said. "Oconee , Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg have all repealed the blue laws. It would allow businesses to open up early on Sunday, creating additional sale tax and additional revenue for Anderson County."

With the vote, the laws went back into effect immediately, beginning January 7th.

Sunday closing laws known as "Blue Laws" according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, the popular conception that the laws are so-named because they were printed on blue paper is most likely incorrect.

More likely, the publication said, the term is based on a disparaging 1700s usage of the word "blue" meaning "rigidly moral."
